The Future of Training: How to Prepare Your Organization Now

In a recent engaging webinar led by Cindy Huggett, a distinguished author and expert in virtual learning, participants explored the evolving training and development landscape. With over three decades of experience, Cindy provided valuable insights into the future of technology-based training, emphasizing the critical questions organizations must consider to survive in these ever-evolving times.

Cindy opened the session by reflecting on the significant transformations in training methodologies over the past two decades. She highlighted that in 2005, 70% of formal training hours were conducted in traditional in-person classrooms. Fast forward to 2018, and that figure significantly dropped to 53%, reflecting a clear shift toward virtual and hybrid learning environments. This trend accelerated recently due to the global pandemic, which forced many organizations to pivot quickly to virtual training solutions. Watch the full recording to learn even more about how these changes have steered Learning and Development initiatives in organizations.

The webinar centered around five essential questions that organizations should be asking to optimize their training strategies:

  1. Are we using the right modalities?
  2. Do we still need facilitators?
  3. Are we using the right tech stack?
  4. Do we have the right resources for learners?
  5. Do we have the right strategy in place?

Cindy emphasized the importance of understanding today's diverse learning modalities, from self-directed e-learning to facilitated virtual classrooms. She also discussed the complexities of hybrid learning environments and how having some participants in person while others join remotely presents unique challenges, especially regarding engagement and technology integration.

Throughout the session, Cindy shared compelling data and research findings, illustrating the growing acceptance of virtual training. She referenced an Association for Talent Development survey, revealing that 88% of organizations planned to maintain their investment in virtual training after the pandemic.

Cindy's insights highlighted the current state of training and underscored the urgent need for organizations to remain agile and innovative in their approaches. The lively discussion emphasized the importance of asking the right questions so companies may adapt to learners' changing needs and effectively leverage technology.
