Gamification: From Certification To Application

Would you like to introduce gaming into your corporate training programs? Are you curious about how to leverage points, levels, challenges, rewards, and easter eggs to drive participation, engagement, retention, and to achieve a measurable ROI?

In this webinar, Stephen Baer, Chief Creative Officer at The Game Agency and Dr. Jonathan Peters, Chief Motivation Officer at Sententia Gamification shared a 5-step process of gamifiying a training program.

They covered how to:

  • Define your measurable business objectives and determine how gamification will help you to achieve your objectives
  • Weave analogies and stories to make the training stickable – so that players remember facts and transfer skills to real-world scenarios
  • Create the right mix of ingredients and next steps in your learning activities to allow the participants to acquire knowledge and skill
  • Identify the game elements (points, badges, leaderboards, etc.) and game mechanics (chance, competition, collaboration, rewards, etc.) you will use
  • Construct a consistent, attractive - even charming and captivating - cohesiveness that ties the entire project together

Jonathan describes gamification as motivational design.

…It deconstructs games to use the mechanics and dynamics of games in a non-game context to engage users and solve problems.

Sententia’s 5-Step, trademarked process for creating engaging games goes like this:

In the webinar, Jonathan gave an example of how a company applied those elements to payroll law training to take a dull topic and turn it into an engaging story that learners remembered.

Stephen then showed attendees how The Training Arcade® and Arcades® can help their organizations easily implement engaging learning games.

In addition, Jonathan and Stephen talked about the different types of motivation and what game mechanics appeal to each type of learner.
