Zoom is a way of life in these pandemic days. We lean on it for everything: meetings, sales demos, virtual happy hours, socially distanced game nights, workouts, and more. Tonight, my homeowner’s association is having our annual meeting over Zoom!
One of our Senior Account Executives recently experienced problems sharing his screen on Zoom during a demo of our LMS. As he was taking his client through the demonstration, Zoom stopped following his screen when he navigated to different areas of the LMS—and then froze!
This Zoom issue first arose after he upgraded his Mac to the latest operating system (validating my personal strategy of absolutely never updating anything!).
Now, if you’ve ever been presenting in a meeting or demo and experienced screen sharing problems, you know how frustrating this can be. A Zoom glitch can ruin your presentation and maybe even your sales prospects.
Often, when you’re having issues with video or screen sharing in Zoom, it’s due to low bandwidth or a poor internet connection. But if your internet is zooming along—pun intended—and you know it’s not that, there may be a different problem. Especially if you recently upgraded your OS.
Never fear—we did the sleuthing for you and found a solution to this Zoom screen sharing issue.
And voila!
We’ve had several people at eLearning Brothers turn on this setting after experiencing problems with their Zoom screen sharing freezing or quitting and it’s fixed the problem for all of them!
Now that your screen sharing is running smoothly, how else can you ensure a productive and engaging Zoom meeting? Here are our tips:
Looking for a fun way to get feedback from your team? Ask a question and have your coworkers click “Add reaction” to cast their vote with a thumbs up, clapping emoji, heart, or star.
The Reactions option is found at the bottom of the meeting screen in the same panel as mute audio and video. Emojis disappear after 5 seconds.
Pro tip: by default, those reactions have a yellow skin tone, but you can customize that on the Zoom desktop app.
There’s always that one coworker who forgets to go on mute while they’re getting a snack or talking to a spouse. Or a yappy dog in the background. Ambient or background noise can be a huge pain during meetings, so if you have lots of people on a call, use this handy trick to mute everyone simultaneously.
The meeting host can hit ⌘Cmd+Ctrl+M (PC: Alt+M) to mute everyone on the call at once.
As an attendee, you can quickly mute and unmute your mic by pressing the space bar on your keyboard. This is especially helpful if you have a lot of windows open but need to answer a question quickly without scrambling to pull up your Zoom window and click the unmute button.
Admit it, when you’re working from easy it’s easy to roll out of bed and stumble over to your computer in the mornings. So you might not be looking quite your best for those early Zoom meetings. Zoom’s “Touch Up My Appearance” feature in the video settings has your back. Much like beauty mode on your phone’s selfie camera, this feature smooths over your appearance, making you look well-rested and ready to work!
